Comms Council industry support group First Five Rungs has released details of its function for aspirational millennials in communications and advertising. The event will take place at 6pm on Wednesday 23 August at The Generator in Auckland.

The speakers will talk about how they got their break and share insights into their working days. Plus, there will be an open Q&A, offering a unique opportunity for attendees to ask the panel their career questions.

The panel
The panel of speakers includes TV1 sports presenter Jenny-May Clarkson, presenter/blogger Amber Peebles, Remix Magazine ed Steven Fernandez and Mai FM host Nickson Clark. All will share insight into how they managed the first five years of their career and how they got to where they are today.

Those in the first five years of their communications and advertising career, spanning the entire industry, are invited to attend the evening of inspiration and networking.

First Five Rungs group chair Harriette Hanson said: “This event is a brilliant opportunity for young people in the industry to come together, network and feel inspired. We’re excited about the fantastic speakers we’ve got sharing their career journeys with us.”

As part of the Comms Council, First Five Rungs’ main purpose is to welcome and support young talent entering into the communications and advertising industry and be the guiding voice through the start of their career.

The Newbies Welcome Pack
Over the past year and a half the First Five Rungs’ key activity has been rolling out the Newbies Welcome Pack programme – a special pack to welcome newbies into the industry. The pack contains a Survival Guide written by the First Five Rungs team, sharing tips from their experiences and what they wish they had known when they first started.

The pack also contains useful items and treats to help with the adjustment into the working world and our unique industry.

Hanson commented: “The Newbies Welcome Pack is a really special project because it starts a needed dialogue with new industry members. It can be quite daunting when you start out in our industry, so we’re here to remind newbies that we’ve been there and we’re here if they need us. Receiving the pack introduces First Five Rungs and starts what we hope is an ongoing conversation.”

The First Five Rungs Speaker Series event is sponsored by 3rdeye Recruitment.
