The sudden drain of Aussie & Kiwi creative talent from glamour shop Droga5 New York is starting to look like a flood. Yesterday, Lisa Fedyszyn & Jonathan McMahon announced they were returning Auckland to join Ogilvy. Later, they were joined by senior creative Rory Mckechnie, who is returning to DDB NZ as CD.
Mckechnie previously enjoyed a five-year stint at DDB, where he picked up more than 60 local and international award. At Droga5 he made a mark with some standout campaigns, including The Ripple for Chase.
Mckechnie says he’s excited to be back at Greys Ave after working for one of New York’s top creative agencies.
“Yesterday, Lisa Fedyszyn & Jonathan McMahon announced they were returning Auckland to join Ogilvy. Later, they were joined by Rory Mckechnie, who is returning to DDB NZ as CD.”
“DDB has always held a place in my heart, so the opportunity to return home with such an incredible experience under my belt is fantastic and I’m looking forward to producing more great work with the team here.”
DDB NZ chief creative officer Damon Stapleton said Mckechnie’s return brings invaluable experience to the agency.
“We’re thrilled to have enticed Rory back home,” Stapleton said. “Rory’s work prior to leaving was really outstanding and having him head overseas was on one hand a shame for us but on the other was an amazing opportunity that he had to pursue.”
Before heading offshore, Mckechnie’s notable work included Fargo Woollens for Neon, We Believe for Steinlager, and Bring Down the King for Sky.
Back home, his immediate focus will be brands such as Pump, L&P, Ecostore and Neon.
