AUCKLAND, Today: DDB has launched a heartfelt new Ronald McDonald House Charities campaign that aims to help families with a child in hospital away from home.

The face of the campaign, Greer Feck, is a beautiful 11-year-old girl from Dannevirke (and an ex-RMHC resident.

“We’re issuing a challenge to families across the country to get involved, build their own “special fort” and ask their friends to do the same,” says RMHC ceo Wayne Howett.

“Many forts will raise awareness of the family togetherness that RMHC New Zealand provides when a child is in hospital away from home.”

Once they’ve built their masterpiece, the artists can share a photo of the fort on social media with the hashtag #BuildAFort and tag @rmhcnewzealand.

“Now, Ronald McDonald House is like Greer’s second home – her family also stayed while she underwent major surgery.”

Greer Feck and her family know first-hand the difference RMHC makes. When Feck was just 14 months old, she was diagnosed with a rare cancerous tumour on her spinal cord and had to be treated by doctors in Wellington Hospital, more than 200 km away from home.

Now, Ronald McDonald House is like Greer’s second home, as her family also stayed in the Auckland House while she underwent major surgery at the hospital.

“She understands the important service that the public’s generosity helps provide, so when approached to star in the #BuildAFort campaign, Greer was extremely excited,” says Howett.

“It meant she got to visit Ronald McDonald House for a different reason than her ongoing medical check-ups!”

About Ronald McDonald House Charities New Zealand
RMHC New Zealand supports families when their child is in a hospital away from home. Each year RMHC New Zealand provides more than 4300 families’ accommodation and support free of charge at its facilities throughout New Zealand. The Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Room programmes take care of the practical things in life so families can focus on their child staying in a hospital away from home. This helps to relieve stresses like paying for a place to sleep near the hospital, organising family meals and needing a friendly ear to listen on tough days.
