CAANZ has appointed UK brand consultant Merry Basking as its International Executive Judge for the 2016 Effie Awards.
While in Auckland, Baskin will also speak at the Annual Effectiveness Function of Tuesday 18 October (details to be announced shortly).
Basking was the first planner at Saatchi & Saatchi on Madison Avenue in 1984 (an authentic Mad Woman?).
She was then poached to head up planning at Chiat/Day/New York. After eight years she returned to Europe and ran London’s biggest planning department at JWT – known as “the University of Advertising” (thanks to the founding father of account planning, Stephen King).
In 2000, Basking founded her brand consultancy, focusing on strategy and communications development, workshop facilitation and craft skills training.
She is the most downloaded author on Warc, thanks to a Best Practice column for Admap, was co-editor of A Master Class in Brand Planning and is the principal trainer for the UK APG. In 2012, she was appointed a Visiting Fellow at London’s New College of the Humanities and in 2015 was a Cannes Effectiveness Master.
