The Comms Council has this morning unveiled this year’s Effies finalists. They are: DDB, FCB, FCB Media, True, Colenso BBDO, MediaCom, Shine, Special, Saatchi, Sugar, Mindshare, 99, and justONE (scroll to the end to access the finalists PDF).

The 2017 Effie Awards will be presented at The Langham Auckland in a fortnight – on Thursday 19 October.

A panel of 120 industry experts judged the first round in Auckland and Wellington. They assessed entries from around the country, selecting just under 90 finalists across the 17 Effie categories.

Last month’s Category judging round, to determine the Bronze, Silver and Gold Effie winners, was attended by a further 77 senior-level judges.

All Gold Effie category winners will be eligible for the Grand Effie, awarded to the campaign that achieved the most extraordinary commercial results for its client. The winner will also receive $100,000 in TVNZ airtime, thanks to sponsor and key partner TVNZ.

This year’s executive judging panel includes internationally-recognised strategic planner, Chris Baker founder of Consult Bacon UK, a brand consultancy focusing on brand strategy and communications development.

“Brands are what connects the short-term to the long-term and – when strong – the most powerful engine for growth,” he Baker said. “It’s great to see in this year’s entries the businesses that are making this connection.”

Effectiveness function
While in New Zealand, Baker will be speaking at The Annual Effectiveness Function in association with TVNZ, this Thurday 12 October, hosted at TVNZ Auckland. He will also present a half-day workshop earlier in the day. (More details at www.commscouncil.nz).

Tickets for the 2017 Effie Awards, in association with TVNZ, can be booked through the Comms Council website or on Eventfinder.

The partners
The Comms Council asked M+AD to also acknowledge its commercial partner NZME, plus sponsors Nielsen, The Radio Bureau, Bauer Media, Adshel, and SOAR Print.
