No Medicine for Regret

PARIS, Today: NZ agencies could be well advised to keep an alert eye on next year’s Epica Awards – they’re one of the few global outfits (with the notable exception of the D&AD in New York) that pay close attention to work from NZ.

AUNZ agencies have stayed away, and generally not repaid the compliment. Only Motion Sickness Auckland saved Anzac blushes on the shortlist in Paris last month.

Here’s Epica director Mark Tungate: “Thanks for mentioning us in your daily newsletter.

‘More enter – more win.”

“The paucity of winners from NZ and Australia was mainly due to the fact that we had only a handful of entries from those countries.

“It’s one of the unfair aspects of awards that the countries who send the most work win the most metal. Same goes for the agencies, for that matter.

“Anyway, I like the entry that wins: It made me chuckle and had some relevance to my life given that I have a son who’ll soon be approaching that tricky age.” (The medal winners will be announced just before Xmas.)

Epica is the only global creative ad show judges by comms journos (including M+AD in NZ and Campaign Brief in Oz).
