M+AD stuffed up yesterday’s report about Fairfax NZ Ltd (aka Fairfax Media) announcing its name change to Stuff Ltd (New handle for Fairfax Media) via a printed letterbox flyer.

The mailer we received was not a flyer – it was actually a proper letter from Fairfax/Stuff, addressed directly to us by name (a regulatory requirement).

Understandably, the publisher was somewhat put out, and has pointed out the name-change PR announcements are underway – using completely different channels.

“We’ve communicated directly with our subscribers and customers about the rebrand,” said brand & comms director Phillipa Cameron.


“We no longer consider ourselves just a media company – that’s at the heart of what we do, but we are more than that.”

“From their perspective nothing really changes for them next week.

“But for us it’s an exciting and significant change for the company. We no longer consider ourselves just a media company – that’s at the heart of what we do, but we are more than that.

“In the last 18 months we’ve launched multiple new digital products and services. We believe Stuff better reflects the company we are becoming, what we do and how we do it.”
