Fabled Wellington recording & post studio Marmalade Audio has gone into liquidation, owing just $183,000. Director Sarah Taylor, who now lives in Australia, says Marmalade closed its doors last year, unable to pay the debts after the loss of key clients, including Clemenger BBDO which built its own in-house studio.

Marmalade was founded in the 1970s, and poured out the hits from Dave Dobbyn (Slice of Heaven was recorded there), Bic Runga, Shihad, Jan Hellreigel, Herbs, and Annie Crummer – plus in the 1990s, countless TVC & radio ad soundracks (including Telecom Spot the Dog, Beaurepaires (remember Vince Martin?), Lotto and Cadbury.

The NZ Herald reports that “a swag” of framed awards for ads & music went to the dump in a skip bin.
