AUCKLAND, Today: FCB is reported to have made its CCO, Tony Clewett, redundant. He has now announced a move into a consultancy role.

Clewett has been with FCB for 12 years, and became NZ CCO in 2018.

He said it took him by surprise when the senior leadership team informed him – mid-lockdown – by email.

“MD Toby Sellers did not take his phone, and the receptionist was unable to locate a senior figure to confirm or deny.”

FCB is playing down the news. In fact, they’ve yet to even formally acknowledge it. MD Toby Sellers did not take his phone, and the receptionist was unable to locate a senior figure to comment.

Details are still emerging, and at press time, it was not yet known who will replace Clewett – or even if the role will be filled at all.

Last week, the agency promoted Peter Vegas and Leisa Wall to ECDs. At the time, FCB did not refer to Clewett at all.

More Monday.
