Auckland: Comms Council Industry support group First Five Rungs has unveiled a new event – labelled First Five Dates – for millennials in communications and advertising.
Aware that young industry members don’t have the same networks as those who have been in the industry for years and are often more reserved at senior networking events, the First Five Rungs saw the need for a more relaxed and casual networking event that millennials can dip their toes into.
The ‘speed-dating-esque’ networking evening will be held at Bauer Media Group and see groups of five or six mingling at tables with other like-minded people, getting to know others in the industry and starting to build their own networks.

True to the relaxed nature of the event and to take the pressure off a traditional ‘First Date’, these first five dates are enjoyed over pizza and a few beers.
Those in the first five years of their communications and advertising career are invited to attend the evening of inspiration and networking.
Chair of the First Five Rungs group, Harriette Hanson, said: “Networking can be scary, but it’s such a vital skill everyone in this industry needs to have and is extremely beneficial to your career.
“This event is a really fun way to get similar young minds chatting and starting to build the foundations of hopefully decade long friendships and networks.”
