MediaWorks Radio nudged ahead of NZME in the medal count at last night’s NZ Radio Awards in Auckland, scoring 27 category wins, while NZME scored 18. The Sir Paul Holmes Broadcaster of the year was Mike Hosking of Newstalk ZB (a NZME brand).

Station of the Year – Network was The Edge (MediaWorks), Best Sports Broadcaster was Tony Veitch (NZME), and Best Marketing Campaign was ZM/Mai FM Join the Movement – Fletch, Vaughan & Megan (NZME).

Best Journalist was LIVE Wellington’s Jessica Williams (MediaWorks), Best Newsreader was LIVE’s Hilary Barry (MediaWorks), Best Talkback Presenter was Newstalk ZB’s Leighton Smith (NZME), and The Edge Network’s Leon Wratt was named Best Content Director (MediaWorks)

Best Creative Commercial went to ZM Network’s Jack Links Teenager/Hipster/Iron Maiden/Two Hands/Man (Chris Howden/NZME), Best Website winner was www.therock.co.nz, and The Blackie (for a golden moment of radio) went to The Rock & The Edge Station Swap (MediaWorks).

There were three winners in the Outstanding Contribution to Radio category – Leighton Smith, Sussan Turner, and Gill Stewart; three winners also in the Services to Broadcasting category – Tom Davidson, Phil Yule, and Bill Hayes.
