New campaign for Pause Breathe Smile – from Southern Cross, Havas NZ & Jim Hall

AUCKLAND, Saturday: Pause Breathe Smile is a powerful mindfulness programme which is fully funded by Southern Cross for all kura, primary and secondary schools in Aotearoa.  

More than 100,000 tamariki in more than 320 schools have been through the programme, delivered by 7000 trained teachers – and independent research proves it works.

A new campaign, developed by the Southern Cross team and Havas (now based in Fort St, Auckland) went live yesterday (Sunday).


“The song was especially written and produced for the campaign by renowned NZ songwriter *Jim Hall.”

The campaign includes a television commercial which will also play online, and social media assets which will pop up on Facebook and Instagram.

The social media stories will also go live over the coming weeks.

Creative director Ben Handy and client lead Jo Mahon said: “These feature children who took part in the filming of the commercial and we’re delighted with the outcome.

“The tamariki featured in the posts are amazing and each post highlights a different child and their experience with Pause Breathe Smile.”

The song was especially written and produced for the campaign by renowned NZ songwriter *Jim Hall.

Born in London, educated in Christchurch, Jim was a “first-call” session musician in 70s Auckland on TV shows such as Happen Inn and recording and touring with artists such as Ray Columbus and John Hanlon, Cilla Black, Easy Street, Tony Christie (to name but a few)

After four years in London, Hall returned to New Zealand to found music production company, Soundtrax, in the mid-80s which for three decades was a dominant force at the Axis Awards, as well as  Cannes Gold Lions, US Gold Clios, numerous London international awards and a handful of Australian AWARD Pencils.

He is in fact NZ’s most awarded advertising composer. His film and television career continued during these times with scores for the features Carry Me Back, The Crooked Earth and Kids World and the Treasure Island Kids trilogy.

He has also created the soundtracks for numerous TV shows and documentaries.

He has maintained his involvement in the record industry throughout, producing albums for Denis O’Brien, Hayley Westenra and Amber Claire as well as producing tracks and co-writing songs for Boh and Bic Runga, Dave Dobbyn, Fiona McDonald , Carly Binding, mezzosoprano Helen Medlyn and new-age singer Jayne Budai.

Hall has over a thousand registered songs and compositions with APRA and his songs have appeared on numerous albums and in Hollywood movies.

He is signed to Universal Music as a recording artist under the pseudonym Random Hearts featuring the voice of Amber Claire.
