With the proliferation of communication channels, media companies are changing their offering. How is New Zealand responding to this new era of media and marketing? And what does it mean for marketers, agencies and consumers?
The October CAANZ PREScom Champion Speaker Series presents leading NZ journalists, commentators and industry heads discussing the changing face of media and their response to the commercialisation and commoditisation of content.
The breakfast event, at Kensington Swan Board Room, Auckland on Wednesday 21 October, will feature speakers renowned in their respective fields:
- Tim Murphy, former editor-in-chief of the New Zealand Herald, former chair of the national Media Freedom Committee and executive committee member of the Press Council;
- Ellen Reid, national business editor, Fairfax Media NZ;
- Duncan Grieve, freelance journalist and editor of culture website The Spinoff;
- Simon Wilson, Metro editor
- Alana O’Neill, head of integration, Mediaworks.
Each speaker will share their thoughts on commercial imperatives versus a purist approach, where the lines sit between earned and paid media, and the ramifications this has on agencies and their clients.
MC of the panel discussion is Stoppress ed Ben Fahy.
Megan Clark, chair of the CAANZ PREScom, says the purpose of the event is to gain some insight on how media operators balance providing news with the requirement for revenue.
“It’s a stellar line up of speakers who’ve worked across the various platforms, experiencing the changes and the commercialisation of content,” she says. “It will be an interesting debate across traditional versus non-traditional and the impact of this on brand communications.”
