AUCKLAND, Today: Ellerslie-based media/strategy/technology indie Together has welcomed on board a leading NZ programmatic specialist to a new role leading the agency’s approach to programmable media.

Suraj Barnawal joins from OMD NZ where he headed the agency’s programmatic and ad-tech offering.

Prior to OMD, Barnawal was part of the cofounding team of WPP Groupm’s programmatic platform Xaxis in India, helping launch the group’s data management platform and building Groupm’s multi-market programmatic offering in that country to over 100 clients.

Together managing partner Kris Hadley said: “At Together, Suraj will be responsible for leading the agency’s approach to programmatic strategy and fully transparent media buying. He will oversee technology, data and inventory relationships, and drive the application of programmable strategies across all channels.

“As more and more media becomes planned and bought programmatically, it’s crucial we bring this thinking out from specialist units and place it front and centre of modern media planning.

“Suraj will be critical in continuing our progress in this space.”

“Suraj will be critical in continuing Together’s progress in this space. He’s arguably New Zealand’s leading programmatic practitioner, shares our vision for the future of media and is an awesome person to boot. We’re stoked to have him joining the team.

Barnawal said: “Together is a great fit for me. We share a common purpose and view on how technology and data is changing the media agency model and the strategic skills that will shape success.

Barnawal’s arrival caps a strong first year for the agency. Launching just over 12 months ago, Together has welcomed several new clients including AIA, FILA and Ballance Agri-Nutrients, secured a place on the All-of-Government media agency roster and achieved a finalist at this year’s Effies for their work with RNZ.
