New Zealand’s largest daily deals website GrabOne has broken previously held site records with its inaugural National Burger Day last week.

Proving the culinary delight is still one of New Zealand’s favourite meals, GrabOne’s National Burger Day event recorded a 65% increase in real-time site traffic and a 28% increase in sales.

More than 60 businesses featuring 100 burgers from around the country joined the daily deals event with brands such as TriBeCa and Everybody’s in Auckland, Arthur’s on Cuba in Wellington and Burgers & Beers Inc in Christchurch.

“We are always looking to offer GrabOne customers new things to eat, see and experience and felt it was long overdue to celebrate this long standing favourite – the burger,” said GrabOne managing director Ryan Watkins.

“While we can’t quite claim the burger as a national dish, Kiwis across the country do love it and showed it by visiting the site in droves.

“The feedback we received was the mouth-watering burgers on offer were too good to pass up, including lobster and pork two-ways on black buns, and an Oriental fusion burger designed by Reon Hobson, Chef de Cuisine at Christchurch’s The George Hotel restaurant Pescatore.”

Watkins sais while presale tickets to Cirque du Soleil Quidam and V8 Hotlaps tickets and driving experience “slightly contributed” to the increase, data captured showed the majority of traffic and sales were due to the lure of the burgers.
