Tip Top has enlisted the help of Mango Communications to kick off their 80th birthday celebrations before the above-the-line campaign begins. The brief was to create a fun, unique staff engagement activity that could be leveraged through PR and social media. “The answer?,” says Mango GM Sean Brown. “A staff photo with a difference.”

For the first time in as long as anyone can remember the Tip Top factory closed its doors so staff could enjoy a day celebrating together. The day kicked off with an aerial photo at Point England Reserve – all 300 team members came together in brightly coloured t-shirts to take the shape of a 30 metre tall by 13 metre wide Goody Goody Gum Drop ice cream cone.

Tip Top managing director Kim Ballinger said the company wanted to do something special to celebrate with their hardworking and loyal staff.

“We have generations of families that have worked with us and long-serving staff, some with more than 40 years at Tip Top and we wanted to do something everyone could enjoy together.

“All our staff were so excited to create the giant ice cream cone and the final photo and video looks amazing. It will make for a great keepsake and precious memory for all involved.”

Mango (the PR division of DDB) organised the carefully choreographed production, capturing the huge Goody Goody Gum Drop ice cream cone with a time-lapse video and spectacular aerial photo.

Sean Brown said: “The activity ticked all the boxes, bringing the staff together to celebrate Tip Top’s milestone while also creating some amazing content for PR and social media.”

TV One News and the NZ Herald also attended the event and included stories on One News and herald.co.nz.

New Zealanders too can celebrate with Tip Top’s brand new, limited edition flavour, Birthday Cake Swirl – a delicious combination of cake and raspberry ice cream, infused with real cake pieces and sprinkles.

Tip Top are also sharing the birthday love by giving away 240,000 instant win ice creams this summer and for a limited time the famous Trumpet will be just $2.
