Hiemat Berlin; AMVBBDO UK; Forsman & Bodenfors Gothenburg; Leo Burnett Frankfurt and McCann Melbourne have all made the finals list at the 25th Annual Cresta International Advertising Awards in New York. But not a Kiwi shop in sight.

“Unfortunately, we have a difficult time obtaining entries from your neck of the woods,” wrote awards president Nancy Ross when we asked her why. “Maybe your coverage’ of this press release and our awards will help to bring us above the radar?”

Let’s hope so, Nancy!

The Cresta Awards were launched in 1993 by Creative Standards International “to honour an absolute standard of creative excellence in advertising and marketing communications”.

The Cresta Awards cover 12 major competitions: TV/Cinema/Online Film, Integrated Campaigns, Press, Outdoor, Ambient Media, Direct Marketing, Radio, Design, Promotions & Incentives, Branded Entertainment, Crafts and Interactive.

“52 countries, 26 finalists – 234 ads, campaigns and interactive entries were chosen by 80 top creatives.”

Work is judged on the basis of two criteria only: the originality of the creative idea and the quality of its execution. A Grand Prix is awarded to the highest scoring entries that achieve a pre-determined standard (above a ‘set’ score).

McCann New York scored the top of the shortlist with a total of 32 finalists.

From the 52 countries participating in this year’s awards, 26 achieved finalist status. A total of 234 ads, campaigns and Interactive entries were chosen by 80 top creatives.

Pre-selection juries for TV/Cinema/Online Film, Press, Outdoor, Direct Marketing, Radio, Integrated Campaigns, Design, Crafts, Promotions & Incentives, Branded Entertainment and Ambient Media were held in seven cities – Budapest, Charlotte NC, Madrid, Oslo, São Paulo, Tokyo and Zagreb. In addition, a separate pre-selection jury (19 jury members from 11 countries) was conducted for Interactive entries.

All finalists will be evaluated by Cresta’s grand jury of 86 internationally known creative directors, film specialists, graphic designers and interactive professionals from 46 countries. The jury is chaired by Dentsu Tokyo chief creative officer Yuya Furukawa.

Australia 15
Australia – with 15 ads through – is the only nation from south of the Equator to feature on the shortlist.

The winners will be announced on Friday 13 October.
