Overall, the number 1 station in cumulative reach is The Edge, and the number 1 station in share is NewstalkZB (also #1 nationally in Breakfast).

Survey 3 2017 has shown that commercial radio continues to thrive, delivering compelling results across key demographics. Highlights include:

  • People 18-34: 81.0% listen each week
  • People 25-44: 84.9% listen each week
  • People 25-54: 85.2% listen each week
  • People 45-64: 83.7% listen each week
  • People 55-74: 79.7% listen each week

NZME acting chief commercial officer Matt Headland said: “Another strong survey for commercial radio and evidence radio is an increasingly important channel for advertisers to connect with highly engaged audiences and we’re thrilled with the continued strength of the medium.”

“We’ve had a huge survey, reflecting a busy news period, in which our broadcasters and journalists have covered major events and broken many agenda setting stories,” said NZME managing editor Shayne Currie.

MediaWorks group content director radio Leon Wratt said: “Radio continues to have a strong connection with audiences all over the country. This is something to celebrate but we will keep innovating to ensure radio remains as relevant in the future as it is now.”

Radio Broadcasters Association ceo Jana Rangooni said: “This survey is the third this year, and the third that shows growth in commercial radio audiences across New Zealand. The overall consistency and stability of the data demonstrates the credibility of New Zealand’s largest media survey with almost 15,000 people surveyed. It also shows the loyalty that listeners have to the stations they use every day.”
