NZ scores 12 Pencils – but no Golds

As reported yesterday, NZ won 12 Pencils at D&AD, which overnight awarded a colour value to each one – resulting in seven Wood Pencils (equivalent to Bronzes) and five Graphite Pencils (Silvers).

The Woods (Bronze)

  • Clemenger BBDO picked up three for KiwiRail The Conscious Crossing – in Creativity for Good/Ambient/Spacial & Experiential Design categories.
  • Colenso BBDO won one for Amnesty Unblocker in the Digital Ads category.
  • FCB scored for NZ Fire Service Made From Remains, in Use of Media
  • Ogilvy got one for Auckland City A Kauri Cries in Sound Design for Websites.
  • The Sweet Shop got home with Lipton NZ Bauble in Use of Music for Film Advertising

The Graphites (Silver)

  • Allbirds NZ for Wool Runner in Sustainable Product Design.
  • DDB for Sky TV SoHo Channel in writing for Advertising.
  • The Sweet Shop (x3) for Lipton NZ Bauble in Cinematography, Ad Direction, and Ad Casting categories.

D&AD awarded its highest accolade – the Black Pencil – to five entries, sadly none of them was a Kiwi.

The Blacks

  • We’re the Superhumans (x2) by 4Creative UK for Channel 4/Paralympics (in Film Advertising and Film Advertising Craft.
  • Meet Graham by Clemenger BBDO Melbourne for Transport Accident Commission Victoria (in PR).
  • The Swedish Number by INGO Stockholm for the Swedish Tourist Association (in Direct) – Sweden.
  • DOT. The first Braille Smartwatch by Serviceplan Korea for Dot Inc Germany (in Digital

In total, 732 Pencils were awarded at this year’s D&AD (5 Blacks, 62 Yellows, 180 Graphites, and 485 Woods. The US led the way with 192, followed by the UK with 164, and Australia with 54.

NZ, with 12, came in at #14.

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne was the most awarded advertising agency of 2017, winning 13 Pencils overall – including 1 Black Pencil, 5 Yellows, 2 Graphites and 1 Wood for their Meet Graham campaign alone.
