AUCKLAND, Today: The 2021 Outstanding Radio Creative Awards (Orca) winners have been announced this morning, with FCB winning in both major categories.

The Grand Orca winners for 2021 are Adam Redmond & Emerson Hunt (FCB) for Pak’nSave Meat Hijack. They receive a $10,000 cash prize and a $10,000 client radio campaign.

“We’re stoked to win and with Meat Week’s low prices, we’re always winning,” said the pair.

People’s Choice Award winners are Lauren Southon, Maraea Walker, Slade Gill & Hywel James (FCB) for NZ Police Enjoy The View.

The group was awarded a $2000 cash prize and a $5000 client radio campaign. Maraea Walker was previously a Student Orca winner in 2019.

Judging was based on four criteria: Creativity, execution, effectiveness and innovation.

The 2021 panel consisted of Maria Devereux (Colenso BBDO), Ralph van Dijk (Eardrum), Lisa Fedyszyn (Special Group), Tony Clewett (Federation) and Kim Ellison (Stanley St).

Media Design School students Bella Rakete & Courtney Andersen took top honours in the Student Orca competition for Language of Now, aimed at encouraging Kiwis to learn and integrate te reo Māori into their daily lives.

In second place were AUT students Reece O’Gorman & Connor Cully for Kiri.

The Student Orca judging panel included Simon Vicars (Colenso BBDO), Raymond Otene McKay (Eun) and creative Bex Radford.

TRB GM, Peter Richardson said: “TRB aims to encourage creatives in the advertising industry to let their talents loose and explore the many options afforded by radio.

“It’s fantastic to see these talented creatives explore the audio space and push what can be achieved with radio. We’re particularly proud of the Student Orcas and impressed by the breadth of imagination shown.

“The future is bright.”
