Pead PR has won the digital and social retainer for Huawei New Zealand from Ogilvy, following a competitive pitch, bringing social media and PR under one roof (Pead already held the PR account).
“New Zealand is a key market in which it has made strategic investments to launch products that consumers love,” said Huawei NZ marketing manager Louie Hu. “We’ve seen an outstanding response to our products in New Zealand.
“To sustain this response and our positive performance locally, we’ve recognised the value of effective customer engagement. Pead PR has delivered successfully on the public relations remit, now we look forward to seeing the results of its digital capability.”
The overall account direction will be led by Sarah Munnik with data insights and expertise coming from social strategist Cate Owen. Content creation for social is another strong driver for engagement, which will be overseen by Pead PR content director Konrad Kasiske.
Adding social to its existing public relations work is a natural evolution, says Pead PR managing director Becky Erwood. “Social and PR go together like fish & chips. Public relations today has evolved to incorporate digital engagement as an integral component of communicating with customers and stakeholders.”
She says the addition of social is a natural extension of the agency’s existing work for Huawei. “Our remit is to drive online engagement with Huawei’s customers and potential new customers. Now we can deliver further impact through an integrated PR and social approach.”
“Combined with the public relations component, this will drive improved overall effectiveness in terms of insights, timeliness, and issues mitigation. We can’t wait to get started.”
Earlier this year, Pead PR won the public relations and communications account for Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, including daily media communication and engagement, device reviews and management, key influencer engagement, content creation both written and visual, creative concepts, branding and events.
Why?
Louie Hu says several factors influenced Huawei’s decision to select Pead PR, including previous social media management, an understanding of the New Zealand social media landscape, and strong engagement with Huawei’s key target audiences across the country.
Becky Erwood says Pead PR will work closely with Huawei’s local and global agency network, applying creativity to incorporate Huawei’s products into trending topics around New Zealand. “Our team will work on developing innovative social campaigns that will allow Kiwis to experience and engage with the Huawei brand in everywhere people are talking about it,” she said.
“Combined with the public relations component, this will drive improved overall effectiveness in terms of insights, timeliness, and issues mitigation. We can’t wait to get started.”
Pead PR takes on the social media for Huawei with immediate effect following a handover from incumbent Ogilvy.
