The Public Relations Institute of New Zealand (PRINZ) has opened its annual awards today, encouraging members to enter and showcase their best work across 12 categories.
PRINZ president Bruce Fraser says the awards this year as more important than ever. “The PRINZ Awards are an opportunity to demonstrate, in detail, the level and breadth of work that our members put into achieving significant business results for their clients and organisations,” he said.
“The 2013 and 2014 PRINZ Awards alone gave recognition to members’ work that contributed to: reducing speeding, improving road safety, building awareness of child abuse, increasing recycling levels, the introduction of crowd sourced fundraising to NZ, educating travellers on their goods duty, technological innovation, improving employee engagement, promoting products, events and services to name just a few.”
Awards chief judge Anna Radford says the awards showcase best practice in professional public relations. “The awards celebrate the considerable value that public relations professionals add to projects, programmes and campaigns in a wide range of sectors,” she said. “In recent years award entries have gone from strength to strength in terms of calibre and quality, which demonstrates the considerable spirit, dedication and talent within our profession.
“We anticipate a strong turnout again this year.”
More than 30 PRINZ Fellows and experienced Members participate in the rigorous judging process, which evaluates a wide range of entries from the consultancy, corporate, not-for-profit and government sectors.
The winner from each of the 12 categories is then judged for the prized Supreme Award by a specially-convened panel.
In 2014 the Supreme Award winner was Christchurch-based UC Futures team, John MacDonald of Durning Public Relations, and the University of Canterbury’s Stacey Doornenbal & Jayne Austin whose two-year project secured $260 million in Government funding for the university in post-earthquake Canterbury.
The 41st PRINZ Awards close for entry on Thursday 12 March, with finalists announced on Friday 17 April and winners revealed on Thursday 21 May at a gala dinner held during the annual PRINZ Conference in Wellington.
