KERIKERI/WHANGAREI, Today: Northland agency Due North PR has announced it will now only work with professionals who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Due North’s Peter Heath said: “I’ve decided that my own small firm will take a stand.

“I’ve written this morning to clients, suppliers, contractors and partners to say that in future we’ll be working only with those who are fully vaccinated.

“When it comes to clients, suppliers and partners with a mix of vaccinated and unvaccinated staff, we will work only with those individuals who are.

“This mandate will kick in in 14 days after a digital vaccination passport becomes available.

“We make no pretence that this is a decision based on the grounds of our own health. No – it’s based purely on principle.

“If you’re unvaccinated you are helping the virus to infect very young children, the old and infirm, and those with medical complications that make vaccinating impractical.

“If your choice is to keep Northland from flourishing – then it’s our choice not to work with you. It’s really as simple as that.”

“Many of these will doubtless clog up our health system when they get Covid, denying treatment to others.

“We want to open our region up to the wider world.

“There will be some who say we are eroding ‘freedom of choice’. If your choice is to help keep this virus viable and keep Northland from flourishing economically then it’s our choice not to work with you.

“It’s really as simple as that.

“There will also, we are sure, be those who scoff and say that as a public relations firm we are practicing very poor PR, alienating a potentially significant proportion of our audience. To which we say: public relations is not about being nice to everybody all the time. It’s about clear and open communication, relationship development, trusted-party endorsement and the power of persuasion.

“Sometimes, when it proves impossible to persuade through relationship-building and trusted-party endorsement, it’s necessary to do so by taking a firm position. And as for clear and open communication – this is about as clear and open as it gets.
