Radio New Zealand and Fairfax Media are partnering to provide Stuff’s audience with audio and video from the state-owned broadcaster.

The deal provides Stuff with content from RNZ and its Canon Award-winning youth-focused site The Wireless.

Fairfax Media group digital and visual editor Mark Stevens said the partnership further demonstrated Stuff’s position as a home for quality content by New Zealanders, for New Zealanders.

“This means welcoming content from other publishers, as well as its own,” he said.

“Stuff’s roots were in text and pictures but the site has grown to be a significant source of video news for Kiwis in recent years. Now, we’re adding high-calibre RNZ audio and visual storytelling to our audience offering, using Stuff as a home to amplify the reach of some amazing and important public journalism.”

Glen Scanlon, RNZ’s head of digital, said while its websites had been experiencing “exponential growth” it was focused on reaching as many New Zealanders as possible.

“We make great storytelling and we just want people to engage with it,” he said. “This means recognising that we need to be where audiences are – one of those places is Stuff.”

Scanlon said the deal was similar to one it had with MSN, which had been running successfully for a year.

Fairfax Media’s partnership with RNZ follows a similar arrangement with TVNZ earlier this year, where Stuff has been testing One News video sharing on the site with continued success.

RNZ’s content will appear on Stuff from today, and Stuff will provide RNZ with audience metrics as well as a share of revenue from advertising on the content.
