A leaked email to staff from Herald managing editor to staff confirms that a number of staffers have accepted redundancies.
Feature editor Alan Perrott, Canvas deputy editor Greg Dixon, Living magazine editor Penny Lewis, books editor Linda Herrick, feature writer (Living magazine), reporters Wayne Thompson and Steven Deane, feature writer Geoff Cumming (feature writer) are named in Currie’s email.
Underlying all this is the irresistible appeal to media groups of integrated 24/7 newsrooms – great for efficiency and the bottom line; but not an environment likely to appeal to many seasoned senior journalists.
Currie says there will be “further announcements this week”.
