AUCKLAND, Today: Sunday magazine relaunches this weekend after a design-led refresh, and with a new editor at the helm. Ed Nyree McFarlane says a larger format, with aspirational design and curated content is set to elevate the weekend experience.

Sunday has such an inspiring history,” she said. “It’s been known to set trends and has evolved with the zeitgeist, offering engaging long-form storytelling alongside glimpses into other people’s lives and homes.

“The new Sunday builds on the magazine’s strong heritage and raises the bar with a broader array of content on interesting people and ideas, mouth-watering food, covetable fashion and design, and the latest in wellbeing.”

McFarlane returns to New Zealand following six years abroad, based in the United Arab Emirates.

During this time she was head of digital content for the Motivate Media Group and head of arts & lifestyle for The National. Prior to her move to Dubai, she was life & style editor at Stuff.

“Nothing beats sitting down with a physical newspaper or magazine, especially on the weekend.”

Alongside curating fresh new content for Sunday, and Your Weekend magazine which she also edits, McFarlane is set on building an audience online, and in real life.

“Absolutely nothing beats sitting down with a physical newspaper or magazine, especially on the weekend, but we also know our audience wants to connect with us in other ways, so I’m keen to establish newsletters and events that will excite our readers and advertisers,” she said.

The first issue of the new-look Sunday features in this weekend’s Sunday Star-Times.
