Saatchi & Saatchi and Starcom New Zealand have been appointed by Chorus as their creative and media agencies of record, following a competitive pitch that began at the end of 2016. The incumbent was Contagion.

M+AD understands the pitch was a three-way affair between Saatchi, DDB and Contagion.

“The team demonstrated a clear understanding of our role in the market,” said Chorus head of marketing Karren Harker. “Their thinking was coherent, fresh and aligned with the Chorus brand. It showed great potential and we’re looking forward to working together.”

Saatchi MD Paul Wilson said, “Chorus is an amazing, purpose-driven organisation with people who are genuinely passionate about bringing New Zealand better broadband. We’re excited to be able to help them share this with the country.”

Saatchi & Saatchi will work with Chorus across the board on their marketing communications, driving strategy and creative as well as digital and supporting campaign PR.

Saatchi & Saatchi’s new creative will begin appearing in market from May onwards.

Starcom ceo Alistair Jamison said: “It was an absolute pleasure working with Karren, Kate and the team, and we are excited to partner with them to deliver some great work in the future.”

Chorus is New Zealand’s fixed line broadband and phone infrastructure company, building and looking after the country’s fixed telecommunications network.

They are more than halfway through the biggest infrastructure upgrade New Zealand has ever seen, managing the majority of the ultra-fast fibre broadband network build.
