AUCKLAND, Today: After a “rigorous” three-stage process, Z Energy has appointed Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand as its strategy and creative partner. The agency has refused to identify the incumbents (believed to be Assignment and Chemistry on creative, Mediacom on media and Heyday on digital).

MSL’s Beccy Churchill (who sent us the release) said: “We can’t comment on incumbents.”

(Most agencies routinely identify the incumbents – but media generally don’t seek the IDs of the unsuccessful pitchers.)

Churchill also declined to provide a cell number for Saatchi ceo Mark Cochrane (who’s quoted in the release). Both Saatchi Wellington and Saatchi Auckland phone numbers are incorrect on their website.

“The partnership will see Saatchi provide creative services across the entire Z platform, including brand, retail, digital, POS, content, social and CRM.”

Z Energy chief customer officer Figen Ulgen said: “We enjoyed the process of having some of the country’s best creative companies take a look at our brand and branded eco-system, and it was Saatchi that delivered on all fronts.

“We are now looking forward to the journey ahead.”

Saatchi ceo Mark Cochrane said: “Z Energy is an important organisation to all New Zealanders and we feel privileged to be working with them.”

“Together with MBM we are also excited by the opportunity of bringing Z the modular intelligence, capability, talent and technologies across the Publicis Groupe connected platform.”
