AUCKLAND, Today: Sky TV has appointed Martin Stewart as its new ceo. He takes up the role on February 21, following John Fellet’s decision to retire at the end of the year.

Stewart is UK-born and a former ceo of Middle East pay-TV network.OSN, and CFO of Sky in the UK. During his four years with Sky UK, the network launched its digital platform and doubled its subscriber base.

He also led the turnaround of Ono, a telecom operator in Spain (now part of Vodafone).

Stewart says he is excited by the opportunity to lead Sky as it continues to transform from a traditional television broadcaster to a multi-platform entertainment business.

Stewart’s Sky appointment comes after a global search for a new leader for Sky. Chairman Peter Macourt says his experience, leadership skills and strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges of the sector made him a standout choice.
