AUCKLAND, Wednesday: Angus Hennah, creative director at Special Group, is leaving the agency after three years to start Ampersand Collective. They’re based in Ponsonby Rd, where Hennah will take up the role of ECD.

Hennah said: “While it’s been great working with Michael, Tony & Heath over the last few years, I’ve also been itching to do my own thing.

“Ampersand is a creative collective. We believe high-level creative thinking and supervision needn’t be a permanent cost to both clients and agencies alike.”

And – like the Aussies do – they’re laying out their turf on both sides of the Tasman: “Ampersand will draw on proven relationships with experienced entrepreneurial thinkers across New Zealand & Australia,” Hennah said.

“Special will be Angus’s foundation client, enabling smooth continuity for brands where he played a leading role creatively.”

“We’ll do our utmost to deliver clever, relevant, high quality solutions that are on time and budget conscious. And then we’re gone – until you need us again.”

Special Group managing director Michael Redwood said: “As entrepreneurs ourselves, Tony, Heath and I are super-supportive of people doing their own thing and we are 100% behind Angus’s new venture.

“We also fully intend that Special will be Angus’s new business’s foundation client, which will enable smooth continuity for brands where he has played a leading role creatively. We’re happy that this arrangement will mean that Angus remains very much part of Special’s extended family.”

Hennah said: “I look forward to working with Special and their clients in a different capacity.  I also very much look forward to meeting new clients, colleagues and friends to help solve their particular business problems.”
