Special Group has enhanced its digital capablilities by launching a new production company, Nimble, to be headed by production industry legend Patrick McAteer (formerly GM at Film Construction and ceo at Oktobor).

“Rather than being limited to the talent under one single production company roof, Nimble is a talent aggregator, accessing the very best talent – no matter where that talent is,” says Special ECD/founder Tony Bradbourne.

“This gives Nimble the flexibility to create everything from engaging social content, innovative digital concepts, and high-end commercial productions right through to television and streamed series.

“The types of jobs and ideas our industry is creating are constantly changing to meet the growing number of channels brands now execute in. This new model production company is designed for this exciting digital era.

“The name Nimble says it all. We set out to create the perfect platform to produce engaging social, innovative digital & mobile concepts as well as the most high-end commercials – all whilst delivering more production flexibility.

“It’s about making impossible seem easy.”

Patrick McAteer said: “Nimble is a new model production company – an aggregator, accessing the very best production talent, specific for your project.

“Nimble shares the same Drake St building as Propellerhead, Special Group and print production company Producer, but is a separate company from Special.”

“We’ve structured it to have flexibility at its heart, allowing us to create across all formats – engaging content, digital & mobile, high-end commercial productions right through to television and streamed series.

At Nimble, McAteer will be joined by executive producer Nic Craig, who’s also ex Film Construction.

Nimble shares the same Drake Street building as Propellerhead, Special and print production company Producer, but is a separate and independent company from Special Group.

Bradbourne said, ‘At Special we pose some pretty tricky production questions with the work we want to create – whether it’s bringing to life Kiwis’ ideas for amazing nights out, then turning them into a TV series called the Smirnoff Night Project, or flying a radio intern to El Salvador and back in a week, creating a new commercial every single day.

The Harbour Bridge job
“Or even working out how to convince everyone to let us put 60,000 LED lights up on Auckland Harbour Bridge for the first time – then syncing them up to everyone’s mobile phones.

“Nimble is designed to make these ideas easier to achieve. Not just for Special but for all of the other ambitious companies out there.”
