AUCKLAND, Today: Contact Energy, New Zealand’s second-largest energy company, has appointed Special Group as its new creative agency, following a pitch.

The unsuccesful pitchers were said to be Colenso BBDO, and incumbent Bob’s Your Uncle.

Contact generates electricity at 11 geothermal, hydro and thermal power stations across the country, and has more than 500,000 electricity, gas and broadband connections throughout New Zealand.

Contact’s head of marketing Sera Flint said her team was looking forward to working with Special Group.

“They impressed us at every step, including an unconventional pitch process during the Covid-19 lockdown.”

“They’ve impressed us at every step, including an unconventional pitch process during the Covid-19 lockdown and we can’t wait to see what their experience and enthusiasm delivers for the next chapter of the Contact brand.”

Special Group’s work will include strategy, design, communications, retail and innovation.

Special Group ceo/CCO Tony Bradbourne said “We love Contact’s ambition to make a difference to Kiwis by putting their energy where it matters, and their commitment to a low-carbon energy future for New Zealand.

“Energy is a highly competitive category right now, with consumers having more choice than ever – we’re looking forward to working with a team who have a vision to go well beyond the energy category.”

Special Group strategy director Nick Salter said: “The Contact account represents a challenging, strategic and creatively exciting opportunity which will allow us to collaborate on some very strong work to connect with Kiwis in ways big and small.”
