The finalists for the 3rd annual NZ Social Media Awards have just been announced. Work from Whybin\TBWA, Special Group, Fuse, NZME, Spark PR & Activate, Sherson Wills, and Y&R is featured in the finals list.

More commonly known as the #SMCAKLs (pronounced Smackles), the New Zealand Social Media Awards celebrate the best of social media in New Zealand and will take place on Wednesday 17 August at Auckland’s Maritime Museum.

“The exceptional calibre of entries for this year’s #SMCAKLs show just how much New Zealand organisations – both in the private and public sector – have embraced the use of social media in their communications and marketing,” says Vaughn Davis, #SMCAKL’s organising committee member and ceo of award sponsor, The Goat Farm.

“This year, we have seen exceptional examples of how the use of social media in New Zealand has matured. The sophistication on display in how organisations have engaged and connected with communities and customers online proves social media is coming of age in New Zealand.”

Finalists and winners were decided by an independent panel of judges, including Ken Freer, Marketing Director at House of Travel, Simone McCallum, Senior Digital Content and Social Media Manager at ‎ASB Bank, Sara Philips, Social Media Marketing Manager at ANZ Bank, and Tom Bates, Social Influence Director at Contagion.

The awards are presented by the friendly people who put on the free monthly #smcakl (Social Media Club Auckland) events, where 200-plus people gather to “meet someone cool, drink something cold, and learn something new” about the latest trends in new media, digital and social.

Winners of the 2016 New Zealand Social Media Awards will be announced at a swish cocktail evening on Wednesday 17 August, at the Maritime Room, Princes Wharf, Auckland City. For a mere $10 anyone can come along and join in the festivities and learn about the best of social media from the best in social media.
