AUCKLAND, Today: At least 7500 people work in NZ creative comms companies, an industry insider told M+AD (following our earlier inquiry).

This estimate – provided by Kiwi client/agency specialist Sarah Ritchie (who has won international accolades for her latest book, How to Tango with a Tiger: a marketer’s guide to working with creative communications agencies) confirms that we in NZ work within a tiny exclusive bubble of extraordinary creative talent.

“I don’t have exact figures – it’s really hard to tell. Nobody lists their staff numbers anywhere,” Ritchie said.

“My conservative guess would be around the 10,000 mark.”

“I’ve tracked the rise and fall of agencies for the past 10 years or so. We have a definite minimum of 7500 people in the industry (all creative comms companies).

“But my conservative guess would be around the 10,000 mark.

“We are likely to see more redundancies once the government subsidy runs out in August, so post-Covid numbers? Who knows?”
