Reel Factory with support from Frucor’s Fresh-Up brand are about to launch a new sport/entertainment TV show called Short & Wide. The show will be available on TVNZ OnDemand and DUKE from later this month.

Short & Wide is the latest brand funded series to launch under the umbrella of TVNZ OnDemand Shorts. The 8 x 12minute episodes will launch August 23.

Hosted by three self-proclaimed failed sportsmen, George Harper Jnr, Anthony (Ants) Niterl, and Andrew (AJ) James, Short & Wide will talk to special guests in front of a live studio audience each week.

TVNZ’s GM of Content Solutions, Lyndsey Francis says everyone working on the project has been good sports: “Short & Wide is a real team effort with Reel Factory and Frucor that taps into our national love of sports commentary and banter.

“From a commercial and creative perspective, we’ve loved working with Frucor, who are really enthusiastic about giving fresh new talent a bigger stage for their stories to be shared across our platforms. The series is wonderfully irreverent and it’s sure to drive strong social engagement for the Fresh-up brand.”

Kylie Biddle, Senior Brand Manager at Frucor says “We are excited to be on board with Short & Wide, three mates talking to special guests in a refreshingly honest and down to earth way aligns well to the Fresh-up brand personality with a bit of healthy rivalry thrown in for good measure.”

Originally a series of online clips with a dedicated following, Short & Wide has been picked up by TVNZ to launch on the bigger playing field provided by DUKE and TVNZ OnDemand.

Host Harper Jnr hopes that Kiwis will appreciate their style of sports broadcasting. He says: “Named after one of the worst deliveries in cricket – Short & Wide will bring you possibly one of the worst, but highly entertaining deliveries in sports broadcasting.”

Co-host Niterl says he is excited about getting out of the garage and onto NZ screens: “We started in a flat garage with a mobility scooter as an office chair, so we’re really excited for our first season in a much better garage.”

Before Short & Wide launches, George, Ants and AJ were asked how they would promote their show – check out their ideas now in The Boardroom.
