AUCKLAND, Today: The latest version of Twitter – Twitter Blue – has this morning become available in New Zealand, giving Kiwis access to more content. It was released in Australia in June.

Twitter product manager Smita Gupt, in an email from San Francisco, said: “Based on internal data, we know Kiwis use Twitter to see what is happening in the world and be part of the public conversation.

“With that in mind, we are thrilled to share that Twitter’s subscription offering.

“And for those wondering, no, a free Twitter is not going away, and never will. This subscription offering is simply meant to add enhanced and complementary features to the already existing Twitter experience for those who want it.

“And for those wondering, no, a free Twitter is not going away, and never will.”

“Till now, Twitter Blue was available only in Australia and Canada. New Zealand is the third country to join the pack, alongside the US

“It’ll cost $NZ4.49 a month – the same price as a flat white!

“Members will have access to an ad-free reading experience when they visit US-based news sites from Twitter.

“Twitter Blue users get early access to new features before anyone else. This will update continuously.

“Currently being tested are longer video uploads, pinned conversations, Undo Tweet (subscribers can preview and perfect Tweets before they are sent), and Reader (which turns long threads into a more noise-free experience).”
