AUCKLAND, Today: The husband & wife filmmaking team who head up Film Construction, director Perry Bradley & photographer/EP Belinda Bradley, have turned their skills to an art form they love – the documentary short.
With music running through their veins, they say they jumped at the chance to follow the story of composer Brent Parker.
Separated from his birth place for over 60 years, Parker returns at age 84 to workshop his unpublished symphony with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra. Travelling from Ireland he hopes his last and most personal composition will be selected for the 2018 season.
“The extraordinary story of Brent Parker impacted our hearts, his drive and love of his craft is a true inspiration.”
His symphony is based on early Maori landings and the integration of cultures. It is a musical tribute to his land of origin. A story about the creative process, the struggle to be noticed as an artist and the purity of commitment to craft, this mini documentary portrays Parker’s need to contribute, be recognised and reconnect with the land of his childhood.
“The extraordinary story of Brent Parker impacted our hearts, his drive and love of his craft is a true inspiration.” Belinda Bradley says.
It premieres tomorrow (Wednesday 21 November) at 8.20pm on the Sky Arts Channel. (That’s the trailer, at the top of this page.)
