Vodafone New Zealand has appointed MEC as its media buying agency in a shift that will see the New Zealand telecommunications company align with a global move across the Vodafone Group. MEC – an established agency within the Y&R NZ Group – are part of the GroupM global media investment company who are new to the New Zealand marketplace.

The Vodafone Group initiative consolidates buying services for Vodafone’s media needs across the 21 countries it operates in – driving increased efficiency and simplicity both locally and globally.

Vodafone New Zealand has worked locally with Omnicom Media Group agency Spark PHD for its media communication services over the last 12 years.

“We have enjoyed a great working relationship with Spark PHD, evident in the ten plus years we’ve spent collaborating with them,” said Vodafone consumer director Matt Williams. “We are thankful for all their hard work and the innovative and effective media solutions which have delivered great results for Vodafone New Zealand, in what has been a true partnership. We wish them all the very best in the future.

“The move to MEC presents new opportunity for Vodafone and we really look forward to working with them. In this fast changing media landscape, we can benefit from GroupM’s experience globally and the best practice they develop with other Vodafone markets.”

A transition period will take place between February and April 2015, with MEC undertaking full buying responsibility from 1 April, 2015.
