AUCKLAND, Today: RealNZ has welcomed Environment Court approval for the new Walter Peak Rural Tourism Zone, clearing the way for future visitor experiences on the peninsula alongside ongoing protection and regeneration of its natural environment.
The approval follows a successful mediation process between RealNZ and Queenstown Lakes District Council, which was later ratified by the Environment Court.
RealNZ says the outcome supports its long-term vision for Walter Peak High Country Farm, with future plans centred on unique visitor experiences backed by conservation and restoration work.
RealNZ Chief Executive Dave Beeche says the decision is an important step for the site and its future.

“Walter Peak is an extraordinary place, and we acknowledge the responsibility that comes with caring for such a special part of our taiao. We are committed to ensuring that the development of new visitor experiences enhances and protects the natural environment, both now and for future generations.
“Our purpose is to help the world fall in love with conservation, and Walter Peak is an opportunity to bring that to life in a meaningful way. Alongside any future visitor experiences, we are already investing in reforestation and pest control to support the return of native flora and fauna.”
