The NZ Advertising Producers Group is to host an information evening in association with CAANZ, ANZA, the Technicians Guild, Screensafe & Film Auckland to provide information to about safety compliance.

The venue is the Mt Eden War Memorial Hall, 487 Dominion Rd, Balmoral. Doors open at 6.30pm on Tuesday 9 February.

The event takes place in the runup to NZ’s new Health & Safety legislation which comes into effect in April.

The legislation heralds positive steps towards safer work practices, and warns of challenges for advertising production (including client, agency and production company).

There are significant penalties for non compliance – up to $600,000 for individuals and $5m for companies, as well as jail time. A set can be shut down at any time if active safety compliance cannot be demonstrated.

Everyone has non-transferable responsibilities to ensure safe work practices for themselves and those around them on all productions.

All companies in the sector need to know what your safety responsibilities are and how to ensure compliance.

There will also be an update from ScreenSafe on the progress of the new Safety Code of Practice.

The new NZ Worksafe Reform Act broadens the scope of health and safety and significantly increases penalties for breaches. Most importantly, it creates a new responsible entities including “Officers” and the “Person Controlling a Business or Undertaking” (PCBU). These categories cover key people from all organisations involved in advertising screen production: Client, Agency, Producer, Production Company, technicians and suppliers.

Tickets to the information night are $22.70 (includes gst).
