Young+Shand has announced the appointment of Geoff Joe in the newly created role of design director. Internationally awarded, Joe initially studied Visual Communications with a Bachelor of Design with Honours at Massey University in Wellington. His studies included extensive training in graphic design, interactive design, motion graphics and typography.

After graduating, he went on to help build a small digital startup agency, Skull and Bones, then did stints at Resn and Colenso BBDO before heading to the UK where he worked at MediaMonks.

Joe’s  work covers a wide range of digital experiences including web, games, digital products and installations.

A variety of artistic and creative approaches has led him to produce innovative campaigns including a  Samsung Smart Beanie (worn by Olympic athletes), a range of facial-recognition games for a Google Hangouts hackathon, a mobile party-house for Pepsi, a banking website which detects your emotions and the launch of one of the world’s most advanced smartphones.

“I’m hugely excited to be joining the amazing team at Young+Shand, especially at a time where the company is really defining itself as world-leading creative agency,” Joe said. “What really appealed to me is their unique approach towards digital marketing and their ability to produce genuinely effective campaigns. They have a team of very talented people and I’m excited to be an addition to their design and creative capabilities.”

Y+S creative director Tim Wood said “We finished 2016 really strongly picking up some big new clients, so Geoff’s return to NZ couldn’t be better timed. Our continued focus on strengthening our creative product and delivering market-leading digital work demands that we have the best people. And Geoff undoubtedly fits that description. Personally, I’m really excited to see how his design experience and leadership will add a further dimension to the quality of everything we do”

Managing director Duncan Shand said: “I’m thrilled Geoff is coming on board. A focus on design in the digital space has never been more important. For us being able to attract someone of Geoff’s exceptional calibre and experience is a key step that will let us deliver the best digital work you’ll find anywhere.

“Young+Shand is a specialist digital agency. We focus on three things; we’re strategic marketing thinkers who create digitally led advertising campaigns, we build beautiful websites, and we drive effective results using smart technical marketing.”
