Since their original McWhopper proposal, Y&R NZ client Burger King has received offers from other burger brands to collaborate. The original targets of the Y&R McWhopper proposal, McDonald’s, predictably muddied the waters, but the agency has pressed on anyway – and their offer has been picked up by Denny’s, Wayback Burgers, Krystal, and Giraffas.

In another open letter posted on social media, Burger King says it is going to build on these individual proposals to collaborate together on Peace Day, Monday 21 September.

“Our idea would be that we all come together to create a burger that combines a key ingredient from each of the signature burgers to make The Peace Day Burger,” says Y&R managing director Steve Kane.

“The other brands are now onboard.”

And indeed they are: Denny’s tweeted “Let’s hash it out over some hash browns; how about a Slampper© or a Whammper© or a Whoppaslamusrex© or something?”

Wayback said: “We are totally in – can’t wait to meat up about the #PeaceDayBurger.”

“McDonald’s are obviously still welcome to join us, but our objective has always been about raising global awareness of Peace Day,” Kane said.

“Although McDonald’s haven’t yet agreed to come on-board, our original proposal still stands. McDonald’s, please take your time. We’re totally at peace with that.”
