Y&R gives Clooney a new look

Y&R has given the menus at Auckland fine-dining restaurant Clooney a new look to celebrate the arrival of new executive chef, Jacob Kear, and better reflect his culinary style.

Formerly cooking for stars in Hollywood, Chef Kear is known for his blend of Eastern and Western flavours and his fusion of classic and contemporary techniques.

He says a childhood split between the Japanese countryside and Northern California seeded his respect for ingredients and passion for foraging, which was later developed during his extensive time working alongside Rene Redzepi at Noma in Copenhagen (Best Restaurant in the World four times).

He’s also worked at the Michelin-starred Tapas Molecular Bar on the thirty-eighth floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Tokyo.

Clean, clean, clean
An unnamed Clooney spokesperson said Chef Kear’s time in Scandinavia and Japan “resulted in a culinary style marked by clean lines and clean flavours, with often no more than five components to any one dish”.

Y&R needed to ensure the new designs embodied the minimalism of Chef Kear’s food, so focused on imagery across still and video. The menus feature one simple ingredient while the website brings the experience of dining at Clooney to life, with a sequence of simple moving imagery.
