Nimble Covid Reply

AUCKLAND, Today: The NZ Advertising Producers Group is giving itself a pat on the back for the way it handled the Covid-19 black hole.

NZAPG chair Rebekah ‘Bex’ Kelly (who’s an EP at Finch) said: “Whilst the whole screen sector has been hugely affected, we knew that tvcs could probably get back to work sooner than some of the bigger drama and feature film production.

“Our productions are naturally more nimble and can therefore respond quickly to changing circumstances. Filmmakers are resilient and love the challenge of coming up with creative, technical, and practical solutions to problems.

“We also felt that our strength was in collaboration, so the exec team of 10 producers and other producer members pulled together in smaller groups to focus on different areas – Health & Safety, Digital/Streaming and Satellite Technology, Immigration, Location Permitting, Insurance & Legal, Pan-Industry Communication, Supporting Documentation.

“You name it, we’ve looked at it!

“There have already been a number of very successful tvc shoots under Level 3 and 2, and we are looking at jobs in increasing scale and scope every day.”

“A huge win has been the publishing of WorkSafe-endorsed ScreenSafe H&S standards, produced in consultation with our Ministry of Health, allowing us to give clients the assurance that we have everything in place to confidently get back to work, with the backing of all relevant authorities, and with a coordinated response from all our industry, from local councils to our drama cousins and commissioning bodies.

“The NZAPG looks to promote best practice standards across our industry and give all members access to resources to support their practice as producers, as well as sharing learnings between us.

“There have already been a number of very successful tvc shoots in the last few weeks, under both Level 3 and Level 2, and we are looking at jobs in increasing scale and scope every day.

“We’ve had a significant presence on the H&S group, which has just published a guide to On Screen / Talent Close Contact shooting, which should be a gamechanger for NZ in terms the scripts we can look at.

“Back in Business, NZ!”
