QUEENSTOWN, Today: First Table has appointed global startup executive Alex Cappy as Chief Executive Officer, as the New Zealand-born dining platform ramps up its United Kingdom expansion.
Founded in Queenstown by Mat Weir, First Table has grown from a local startup into a global restaurant booking platform, connecting diners with restaurants through off-peak bookings and 50% off food.
The model helps restaurants fill quieter tables, while giving diners a reason to discover new venues, cuisines and flavours.
Weir will move into a newly created role focused on Artificial Intelligence and other technology opportunities for First Table.
“Cappy is an exceptional operator with deep experience scaling complex, global marketplaces. As First Table enters its next phase of growth, particularly in the United Kingdom, this is the right time to bring in a CEO with that capability,” Weir says.
“First Table has built a powerful marketplace that solves a real problem for both diners and restaurants.” – Alex Cappy, Chief Executive Officer, First Table
“I’ll remain closely involved in shaping the product and technology direction of the business, which has always been my passion,” he adds.
Cappy brings global marketplace experience across Europe, the United States and New Zealand. She has held senior leadership roles at Uber and Deliveroo in the United Kingdom, and previously served as CEO of global manufacturing platform Hubs.
At Hubs, Cappy led the business through rapid growth following its acquisition by Protolabs.
As CEO, Cappy will help drive First Table’s expansion across the United Kingdom, while growing its marketplace model and continuing to deliver value for restaurant partners and diners.
Her experience scaling operationally complex marketplace businesses is expected to support First Table’s next stage of international growth.
Cappy highlighted the company’s potential, “First Table has built a powerful marketplace that solves a real problem for both diners and restaurants. I see a significant opportunity to scale this model internationally, particularly in the United Kingdom, and to further strengthen the platform through product and operational excellence.”
The appointment reinforces First Table’s ambition to grow as a global dining platform and continue innovating within the hospitality sector.
First Table was launched in Queenstown and encourages diners to try new restaurants, cuisines and flavours, while connecting with loved ones over a shared love of food.
The First Table app is available from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
