M+AD radio survey coverage understated Mediaworks ratings

New Zealand radio survey organiser GfK has supplied further information about the latest Q4 radio survey – data that was not included in the GfK/Radio Broadcasters Association media release that M+AD used for its report last week.

The new figures confirm Leon Wratt’s contention that our report understated the Mediaworks position – Mediaworks audience share in Auckland was 43.9% (up 2.3%), and Mediaworks cumulative audience was 706,700 (up 14.8%).

The NZME share was 39.7% (down 3.9%), and cumes were 549,500 (down 18.5%).

All the other facts reported in the original M+AD story stand – notably that NewstalkZB is No 1 in NZ in audience share, as is Mike Hosking Breakfast.

M+AD ed David Gapes expressed regret that the RBA had not made this data available in its press release.

(GfK has told us that it’s “very important” that we make it clear that all our current news stories refer solely to commercial radio (National Radio, Concert FM, and the other non-comms are not counted).
