Yesterday, M+AD ran a remarkable historic photo of a group of Kiwi ad legends enjoying themselves at a long lunch. We have no idea who to credit for the photo – we found it in a Google search.
But the image stirred several readers enough for them to remind us that one of these legends – Dave Walden – died recently. They clearly believed we had published the pic in error.
Not so, dear readers: We ran the image mainly because it chimed so nicely with a recent comment from Mike Hutcheson (who is among the group in the photo) that “the best creative ideas often come with a few drinks”.
Plus – we just loved the photo (ed David Gapes says he’s proud to have personally enjoyed lunches over the years with all of these people, except Peter Cullinane). What a remarkable collection of people – all in one place.
They were Sandy Moore, Mike Hutcheson, Ross Goldsack, Roger MacDonnell, Peter Cullinane, and the late, great David Walden. We’re not sure when or where it was taken (NSP Parnell, perhaps?). If you can throw light on this, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
